Ghana

Operation Orphan is now working with Ann and Terry Carpenter who were the inspiration behind one of the most successful nutrition centres in Ghana. Built as part of the King’s Village Project near Tamale in Northern Ghana, the Nutrition Centre has seen over 1,000 children brought back from the brink of death. In conjunction with this they have also piloted and developed an innovative way of teaching the surrounding villages about clean water and sanitation. Through the Cleanest Village Competition they have engaged with over 30 villages and seen a significant and lasting change in the health and welfare of the people.

Operation Orphan were able to invest into the projects during Ann and Terry's last trip out to Ghana. While they were there they visited some more villages keen to get involved and also held the Durbur (celebration and prize giving) for the Cleanest Village Competition. Ann and Terry also spent time in the Nutrition Centre visiting some familiar faces who have grown since their last visit thanks to the investment and love of the staff and the money donated to keep these little ones alive. (See LIFELINE for the amazing story of Alhassan and Fuseina).

Now acting as Operation Orphan’s Poverty Relief Co-ordinators, Ann and Terry will be developing the charity’s response to malnutrition among orphans and vulnerable children. They will operate not only in Ghana but in other areas of Africa and potentially world-wide. They will also give valuable input into our clean water and sanitation projects going forward. To find out more about these poverty relief projects take a look at our LIFELINE initiative.
