Hope Alive Tour

Inspired by William Wilberforce’s stand against slavery, Operation Orphan is committed to addressing our modern day crisis of child slavery and exploitation.


The Hope Alive Tour is a charity challenge like no other. Treading in the footprints of the great anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce, it pitches 9 runners on an incredible 390-mile UK relay adventure: the equivalent of two marathons per runner across four days.

The international tour also involves running a marathon in either Sierra Leone, Uganda or Moldova, culminating in a few days of social action.

If you are a runner then the tour is for you. Each relay leg is between 5-10 miles and the marathon is there for you to attempt if you apply for the international tour. Finishing as a team is the goal, not breaking a world record.

Hope Alive UK Tour consists of the following elements:

Nine runners completing a four day relay from Hull to Cambridge via Liverpool and Nottingham.  Each city is significant to Wilberforce and slavery in the 1800’s and Operation Orphan. 

  • Wednesday Evening - Arrive in Hull

  • Thursday Morning - Pre Tour brief/training and leave Hull

  • Friday Morning - Arrive Liverpool

  • Saturday Morning - Arrive in Nottingham

    • Beeston 5km Park Run

    • Breakfast and charity briefing at Operation Orphan HQ

    • Leave For Cambridge

  • Sunday Morning - Arrive in Cambridge

    • Breakfast at King Bill Pub

Hope Alive International Tour consists of the following elements:

  1. Team to complete the above UK Tour 

  2. Team to travel to either Sierra Leone, Uganda or Moldova

  3. Complete a marathon

  4. Engage in 3 days of social action in that country, directly helping the children supported by the charity

What will it cost?

UK Tour

  • All inclusive cost £375

International Tour

  • Moldova £1395 (£320 flights + £375 UK element + £700 international element)

  • Sierra Leone £2075 (£1000 flights and visa + £375 UK element + £700 international element)

  • Uganda £1775 (£700 flights and visa + £375 UK element + £700 international element)
