Knitathon in Edinburgh

On Saturday 26 April a group of 20 ladies gathered together at Gilmerton Library to knit blankets.

This particular Loving Hands knitting group has been running for just over a year and love to knit things for worthwhile causes. Anne Reilly, who organised the event, told me that the group had decided to knit blankets for Syrian refugee children in January when they saw the harsh conditions that were being endured.

Anne decided to let other people know what they were doing and she was overwhelmed by the response. A huge thank you to her friend at Royal Bank of Scotland who managed to collect up bags of wool and to many other people who knitted squares and donated wool. There were even squares knitted by an 8 year old who wanted to be part of helping out.

The morning was a huge success, with home baked treats, chat and of course plenty of knitting.

Thank you ladies, these blankets will be packed up with the rest of the warm winter clothing, shoes and coats to be sent out to Jordan in preparation for winter.
