Update: Uganda, We're Here To Help!

Since the flooding crisis in Uganda occurred, many families have not had access to food or water.

During the past few days, Brad and our partners in Uganda have been ensuring that the people affected by the Ugandan flooding crisis are given access to food and water as many have not been able to enjoy a meal since the flooding occurred. Fortunately, the Ugandan government has begun distributing food staples to the hungry survivors to help relieve the damages caused by the flooding.

We are so proud of our team for stepping in to help, even before the official response began, by offering food and shelter to many families affected by the floods.

Yesterday when the health department visited our team, we were able to take them to see where there are people in greater need, people who wouldn’t have otherwise received this relief. We are so thankful to have been in the right place, at the right time, and to help wherever possible.

We have been able to help families and children by supplying clothing and transport to those affected by the crisis. We’ve done everything from relief co-ordination to the more practical stuff, such as buying bus tickets. Additionally, we were also able to help a heavily pregnant lady, alongside the displaced children, by supplying them clothing to help keep them warm.

Knitted and crocheted blankets are the staple to Operation Orphan, so it was only right to ensure that our beautiful blanket donations found their way to help the Ugandan people! We cannot emphasize to you how happy the kids were to receive your beautiful handiwork - they certainly feel your love. So, we would like to give a massive thank you to all of the knitters and crocheters for supporting us in this way.

This work is such a massive team effort and we are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in supporting Operation Orphan. So much goes on behind the scenes and it has just been so lovely to see the children thriving in their new homes.

Our project coordinator was asked by social services to do an assessment of all the children in the local area affected by the flood. We went and visited every home in the slum to register the affected children and managed to register over 100 children solely in our small area.

We decided to step up and help these little ones straight away with some new mattresses by driving out of town to a factory. The owners very kindly gave us a discounted factory rate for 50 mattresses and ‘Mbale Foam’ also provided 50 pillows for free! As soon as we returned, we began a distribution and continued this throughout the day.

Altogether, this is an overview of what our team have been doing in Uganda to help relieve the damages caused by the flooding. Although we have managed to help profoundly with supporting the local families and children, there is still so much work and recovery that needs to be done. We ask if you could please donate to help empower us to be a part of the solution to help these families who have just lost their loved ones. As always, 100% of your donation will be used to help those affected.
