We Will Go The Distance!

Success is the best revenge on Covid-19!

Thanks to all of your extraordinary generosity, we have been able to fulfil even more emergency referrals! Your donations are making a HUGE difference in our community!

We have lots more stories to share…

15-year old “Zara” is a young carer for her mum; she helps out with tasks around the house and helps to look after her siblings, who display challenging behaviour where they are often putting themselves or others at risk. “Zara” struggles with her mental health and her poor school attendance has become a growing concern. She gave up her own bed for one of her siblings, which meant that “Zara”, her mum and another sibling were all sleeping on the floor. This family were urgently in need of two single beds and a double bed,  which we were able to provide - thanks to all your donations. We were also able to gift a fluffy friend for all the children, providing endless cuddles, which are desperately needed at the moment - all thanks to Cubbies!

14-year old “Abigail” may have cancer. She has been going to frequent hospital appointments, but the family are struggling to afford the costs of travelling to and from the hospital, which has also been impacting their ability to buy food and essential household items. The family were urgently in need of a new washing machine, as theirs had been broken for three weeks - and both ‘Abigail” and her mum have very little clothes. Amazingly, we had so many financial contributions towards this washing machine, that we were able to buy one and install it in their home. The mum cried with happiness when she saw what we had provided for her - she was completely overwhelmed with gratefulness. What an incredible and generous community we have!

We have also been able to provide 14-year old “Ben” with a new mattress and bedding. “Ben” has complex physical and emotional health needs, and the family are under significant financial strain. They were unable to buy the items which “Ben” was in need of, but our caring community and our incredible Crisis Response Team were there to the rescue!

“Clarissa” and her four siblings are living in poverty, which has been negatively impacting their mental health and school attendance. The family were struggling to buy essential items, and potentially facing homelessness. We were able to provide “Clarissa” with a new mattress, new bedding and some extra storage space. And we also provided a safety gate to ensure that the home is a safe environment for her one-year old brother.

Last week we also had a referral for a family who have been struggling financially, especially now the father has been let go from work due to the current lock-down. They had no means of cooking, but thanks to all your generous donations, we have been able to provide them with a hot-plate and a microwave
